Bail funds pay for people to get out of jail while they wait for a hearing. Some people (or their families) can afford to pay their own bail, but many cannot. Hence the creation of bail funds.
Many of these organizations are specifically intended to help immigrants or protesters. These organizations generally also advocate "to abolish the money bail system and pretrial detention" so that others don't have to go through this process in the future.
