Contact Your Reps: They're Using Military TRICARE to Target Trans Kids

In July, the Senate passed a version of the National Defense Authorization Act that "sought to restrict gender-affirming surgeries for transgender adults in the military," as Erin Reed reported. Though it looks like that provision won't happen right now, the Senate was suggesting the direction it'd like to head in.

The Senate also sought to prohibit the military health plan, TRICARE, from covering gender-affirming care for service members' children. That provision will happen.

In yesterday's passage by the House, many Democrats joined Republicans, pushing through the provision targeting the trans kids of service members.

This bill will be "the first federal anti-LGBTQ+ law in over a decade," Reed says today.

Action: Contact your representative

Today, Reed published

"the names of [81] Democrats who voted for this bill. If you see your representative on this list, you can contact them to let them know how you feel by entering your address and looking up their information here."

On the other hand, if your Democratic representative was among the 124 Democrats who voted against the bill, you could thank them.

Six Democratic representatives did not vote.

Look up the roll call to see how yours voted.

Keep in mind: The current pick for Secretary of Defense is anti-LGBTQ

Trump's pick for Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, says that trans military personnel are undesirable per se and that gay personnel are undesirable because they lead to trans personnel ("social engineering"). He also says that emphasizing gender and sexuality diversity leads to deemphasizing military "standards."

In short, Republicans do not support gay people either. They're coming for everyone at the same time.
