Be a living organ donor (a call from Canada right now)
Would you be willing to be tested to become a donor?
rahim ladha's brother Salim needs a liver transplant immediately. A living donor would give a piece of their liver (it grows back). They're in Ontario, Canada.
You're not in Canada? rahim is finding out how that could work. Meanwhile, Ontario has a fact sheet for kidney donors who live outside of Canada (PDF), so the situation for liver donors might be similar.
While seeking to help Salim, rahim also wants to help as many people as possible. As such, rahim's art project, Vicious Minutes Hour (VMH), is campaigning to sign up 500 living liver & kidney donors in Canada by this spring.
rahim created a website where you can:
- donate to help pay for Salim's medications, and
- (if you'd be seriously willing) provide your contact info to be tested for whether you could be a living kidney or liver donor in Canada.
Please forward this to anyone in Canada who might help or might know someone who could help.
As rahim explained on Facebook a couple months ago, Salim needs:
"Someone who is willing to take a few weeks off of work to do this. They would have to be in the B or O blood group & be 18-60 years of age. The government & hospital will provide all the resources they can for care, accommodations & compensation for someone who will do this. I'm working as a bridge between potential candidates & Toronto General."
