U.S. passports: What the gender marker rejection letter says
CNN published an example of the denial letter

Today a CNN video reports that the State Department denied a trans woman's request, upon renewing her passport that had been issued when she was a child, to change her gender marker from M to F. They renewed the passport with the M. (Hear her say it for herself on her Instagram.) All her other documents have been updated to F, but the State Department will not do the same for her passport.
This federal policy has been known for a few days, as reported by Orion Rummler on January 28 for The 19th, and as I posted on January 24 here for Streetlights. Lots of people have had this happen to them.
The CNN video usefully shows an image of the letter that was sent to the trans woman. It says: "The...sex was corrected on your passport application...to match our records."
