The SAVE Act should be voted down in the Senate

It's voter suppression

We need U.S. Senators to oppose the SAVE Act (Safeguard American Voter Eligibility).

This would require that people prove their citizenship before registering to vote or updating their registration. It would create costly and time-consuming obstacles by forcing people to acquire new official documents and register to vote in person. Over 1/2 of Americans don’t have a passport, and approximately 80% of married women have changed their last names and would not be able to use their birth certificates to prove citizenship. The SAVE Act would disproportionately impact: married women, Trans people, people who are low income, people who are disabled or elderly, college students, people living overseas or serving in the military. It’s already illegal for non-citizens to vote and exceptionally rare for non-citizens to even attempt it. The SAVE Act is a poll tax that would disenfranchise millions of eligible voters. It has already passed the House and is heading for the Senate.

  1. Read the text of the bill if you'd like.
  2. Look up your senators' contact information. They usually have contact forms on their websites for those who prefer to write, or you may call their office and leave a message with a staffer.
  3. Ask them to vote NO on the SAVE Act. Just say it's voter suppression, and consider including a one-sentence reason why you or someone you know would be affected.
