Trans and nonbinary people: Know the changing passport rules
Documents will be increasingly under threat.

Upon Trump's inauguration, he signed an executive order declaring that there are "two sexes...not changeable" and that this position is "incontrovertible."
The rules about passports have already changed. The State Department made this decision following the executive order.
If you already have a passport
✅ Whether the gender marker is F, M, or X, the government isn't challenging it at this time, according to what the Trump administration itself has said. (Of course, at any moment, it could change its policy.)
❌ However, you can't change your gender marker.
❓If you've already changed the gender marker on your passport and you try to renew your passport, no one is sure what the government might do.
If you don't have a passport yet
❓If you ask for a passport to be issued, be aware that you can't get an X gender marker anymore; your choices are F or M. It's possible the government may give you the gender marker that it believes corresponds to your sex assigned at birth, even if you request the other.
